At the heart of our studio is a commitment to putting people first—especially the artisans whose craftsmanship and traditions are at the core of our work. We believe in honoring the generations of knowledge and skill that have been passed down by these artisans, and we aim to create new alternatives for them to continue practicing their craft with dignity and recognition as the true artists they are.

Our mission is to act as a bridge between ethical fashion brands and the indigenous artisan communities of India, ensuring that the artisans remain at the center of the slow fashion revolution. By providing them with the opportunity to thrive while preserving their traditions, we hope to foster a more sustainable, equitable future for the textile industry.

The garment industry is one of the most wasteful and polluting sectors in the world, and we are determined to be part of the solution. We believe that by replacing fast fashion with mindful, slow fashion, we can shift the focus toward creating lasting, meaningful pieces that benefit both people and the planet. Our Story

Tangachi is an ethical design and manufacturing studio based in South India.

Tangachi was born out of a deep love and admiration for the women artisans of India, whose remarkable craftsmanship has been passed down through generations. These artisans, often the heart of their communities, continue to preserve ancient techniques that have shaped India’s rich textile heritage. We are inspired by their resilience, skill, and creativity, and it is through their artistry that we’ve built our foundation.

At the core of our mission is the desire to create a new template for the garment manufacturing industry—one that is grounded in sustainability, transparency, and ethical practices. The traditional textile production process often exposes workers to harmful chemicals, including toxic dyes. We are committed to changing this by employing natural methods, using sustainable fabrics, and ensuring that every step of our production is free from chemicals.

Our vision extends beyond the workshop; we want to create a transparent chain from seed to closet. By encouraging and supporting farmers to grow indigenous, pest-resistant cotton and hemp crops, we aim to create demand for these sustainable materials and empower rural communities. Nature and culture are the two pillars that guide our brand, and we are dedicated to preserving the rich cultural heritage of India while promoting the health and well-being of our planet.

We believe that clothing should not only look good but feel good too. As our garments are in direct contact with our largest organ, the skin, we strive to raise the vibration of the clothing we wear daily—ensuring it is not only beautiful but also beneficial for both the wearer and the world.

We also recognize the challenges faced by small and ethical fashion designers, who often struggle to start or scale their brands due to the high minimum quantities required by traditional factories. We aim to bridge this gap by creating a mutually beneficial exchange between ethical fashion brands and the artisan communities of India. By offering smaller production runs, we empower designers to bring their visions to life while supporting sustainable, handcrafted work.
